Aromatherapy Methods of Use
Tissue One drop placed on the tissue and inhale deeply. Avoid eye area.
Steam inhalation Place two cups of hot water in a bowl, add 2-4 drops of essential oils to the water. Place towel over your head and keeping eyes closed, breathe deeply. Do not use this method if you have Asthmatic conditions. Good for skin cleansing, colds, sinus issues
Diffusers:
Aromatherapy burner/diffuser Fill the top bowl with water, add essential oils to the diffuser. Usually 5 10 drops depending on the bowl size.
Light bulb ring Usually the drops range from 4 8.
Electric Diffusers Such as the scent ball and car scent ball, add essential oils to the cotton pad and insert onto the ceramic heater. Usually 10 15 drops added.
Electric Stream Diffusers Spray essential oil molecules into the air, manufacturers have written instructions for use and amounts of essential oils to use.
Misters: Body/Face use 8 drops per 30 mls (around 1.5% dilution rate) maximum.
Environmental use - 15 60 drops per 30 mls depending on the use (around 2.5% to 10% dilution rate) maximum.
Topical Application Methods:
*Remember less is more with Aromatherapy! This is only a guideline and contra-indications of the essential oils need to be looked at when selecting blends to use.
Massage Oil for healthy adults use 7 15 drops per 30 mls of massage oil.
Lotions Use the same as for Massage Oil, if using for skin care use only 3-10 drops per 30mls of lotion.
Compresses Fill bowl with either cold or warm water depending on condition and add 3 5 drops of essential oil. Soak cloth in water, wring out and apply to the affected area.
Bathtub Fill the bath with water first, add essential oil to the water and swish before stepping in the tub. Add 2 8 drops maximum. This method is for inhalation also
Footbath Fill container with warm water, its good to soak feet past the ankles, add 2 6 drops of essential oil to the water.
