Analgesic   relieves pain
Antibiotic   combats infection within the body
Antidepressant   alleviates symptoms of depression
Antirheumatic   prevents inflammation and aching of joints
Antiphlogistic   reduces inflammation
Antiseptic   sterile, clean, free or microorganisms
Antiviral   prevents passage & acceptance of virus into the body
Astringent   causes constriction of tissues locally
Bactericidal   inhibits growth of bacteria
Balsamic   soothing and restorative properties
Carminative   sedative, relaxing properties
Cicatrisant   promotes development of scar tissue
Cytophylactic   stimulates production of new cells
Emmenagogic   induces menstruation
Expectorant   helps to remove phlegm and catarrh
Hypotensive   lowers blood pressure
Nervine   tonic for nervous disorders
Restorative   helps strengthen and revive body systems
Rubefacient   warming, stimulates circulation
Sedative   reduces excitement, calming, induces sleep
Stimulant   increases activity and wakefulness
Stomachic   tonic for the stomach
Tonic   a substance that invigorates specific organs or areas
